Study Tour to GEKKEIKAN, Japan’s Largest and Most Renowned Sake Brewery with Over 420 Years of History





Kyoto, Japan: on February 19, 2025, H.E Mr. Hout Synead, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cambodia-Japan Kibou Association, along with H.E Mr. Tuy Ry, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Japan, led a delegation from the association on a study tour to GEKKEIKAN, Japan’s largest and most globally renowned sake brewery located in Kyoto, Japan. With a history spanning over 420 years, GEKKEIKAN is celebrated for its premium rice wine production.
The technical managers of GEKKEIKAN provided the CJKA’ delegations with detailed explanations of the brewery’s production process, including rice polishing, milling and refining, fermentation techniques, and sake pressing, as well as the strict hygiene and safety standards the brewery has maintained since its humble beginnings as a small craft brewery to its status as a global industry leader.
H.E Mr. Hout Synead, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cambodia-Japan Kibou Association, requested the brewery’s representatives to consider using Cambodian rice to produce sake under GEKKEIKAN’s technical standards. This initiative aims to add value to Cambodian rice, a vital local agricultural product. The brewery accepted the proposal and pledged to collaborate with the Kansai Office of the Cambodia-Japan Kibou Association to explore this opportunity.
